The City Council of Venice has introduced some new rules and regulations to maintain the cleanliness in the city. According to the new regulation, if a visitor in Venice is caught snacking, sunbathing or taking a dip in the canals here, he/she can be kicked out of the city immediately. Not only this, they will also be banned from visiting the city again.
In extremely specific words, the rule says that whoever makes the public places dirty in any way will have to pay an administrative sanction from 25 to 500 Euros. This is also applicable to shopkeepers in the region, who keep throwing trash cans on the roads.
To fight over tourism, the city started imposing tourists a landing tax of €3 (INR 234) from May 1. However, the fee will go up to €6 (INR 466) for most time of the year. The tax might increase up to €10 (INR 766) on the days of exception tourist influx. These rules are not applicable to the residents or people studying in the city.
Another regulation that will be effective from January 1, 2021, is that all people must have single-use bags and containers that are biodegradable and compostable. Whoever gets single-use plastics inside the city would be fined, though the amount is not clear yet. The same rule is effective in the Capri island of Italy. If a businessman in the city is caught violating the ordinance, his business could be shut down on a temporary basis. And those, who repeat the offence might end up losing their license forever.
Other bans in the city include a ban on eating in public areas, wearing bathing suits in public places, drinking alcohol between 8 PM and 8 AM outside designated areas and sitting or laying down on bridges or monuments. Not only this, they have a condition on partying too. Be it a graduation party or a bachelor party, people are allowed to celebrate only on weekends or during the day.
