Valley of Flowers likely to open for visitors from June

The Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand is likely to be accessible for tourists from June 1. This time, however, the world-famous site will allow only a certain number of visitors up there. One will get the opportunity to visit this place only after securing permission from the forest department. This move will be put into force in order to protect the spot, which is ecologically sensitive and might get destroyed with the arrival of too many tourists.

Locals have already been issued instructions to ensure better facilities are provided to tourists that are visiting the spot after seeking approval from the Tourism Department. With the Char Dham Yatra already in progress, tourist movement to this World Heritage Site will also get a green flag from June onward.
Tourism Secretary Dilip Javalkar, referring to this development, said that the Valley of Flowers being an eco-sensitive zone will get limited number of visitors this year. Further, he said the number of visitors to this place will be determined by the forest department.
It is expected that the number of tourists visiting the valley will likely increase this year, as it had already gained prominence in both domestic and international tourism circuit.
Popularly known as the playground for nymphs and fairies, the flowering valley in Uttarakhand is a scenic spot that unleashes its beauty during the monsoon season. Formed by receding glaciers, this spot remain engulfed with ice and snow throughout the year, which only after the thaw, the region gets inundated with a sudden burst of colours. With around 300 varieties of flowers covering the spot during this time, one needs to visit this region once in his or her lifetime.
