Tsongmo Lake

The Tsongmo Lake, also spelled as Tsomgo Tsongmo Lake, also spelled as Tsomgo Lake, and called the Changu Lake, is located about 25 Km from Gangtok on the way to Nathu La. The lake is considered holy and there is a small shrine on its banks. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the lake is a picturesque sight. In the summer months, there are a variety of flowers in bloom and many birds can be seen here. The bright blue of the lake with the snow clad mountains in the background is an indescribably beautiful sight. Earlier, there used to be shops selling local products as well as food on the banks of the lake but that has been stopped due to environmental concerns. Now, the shops are in the village, a short distance away, but Yak rides are available near the lake.
Basic local food is available in the village, such as noodles, soups and momos but they only prepare on order, so it is advisable to place an order on the way to Nathu La and stop on the way back to eat.
