Thailand is gearing up to legalise medical marijuana industry, as per the Thai Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. This will allow Thais to cultivate cannabis plants in their homes, and then sell their produce to the government. The minister stated this change will eventually lead to an increase in supplies of medical products. This change is also looked upon as a move to give locals a crop that will help boost their incomes. Read less
Referring to this development, he also mentioned that they are in the process of changing laws to freely allow the medical use of marijuana. He further added that they are of the view that marijuana will be among the major agricultural products for Thai households over the course of time. As of now, they are in the process of speeding up the law changes but there is a process to it, he added.
The Health Minister also mentioned that legalising the substance for recreational use will be the next step, which is unlikely to happen in the four-year term of the current government, which assumed office in July this year.
