Taranga Zoo

Everyone loves to see animals, and in that context, a visit to a zoo becomes an attraction for people of all ages, Sydney’s Taronga Zoo being no exception. This award-winning 28 hectare reserve, which opened its door in 1916, is currently home to over 4,000 animals, including Australian native wildlife, as well as rare and endangered exotic animals. Overlooking the magnificent Sydney Harbour, it’s not far from the city centre and easily accessible by public transportation, one option being a 12 minute scenic ferry ride from Circular Quay. Plenty of events take place throughout the day, from close encounters with animals, such as feeding a giraffe, to having the elephant stilt-house experience, or even participating in various tours and shows to learn from omniscient zoo keepers about the animals. For the thrill-seekers the zoo offers some exciting treetop and aerial adventure exercises. Called “Roar a Snore”, the zoo also offers a unique camping experience where visitors stay overnight in safari tents enjoying after-hours and behind-the-scenes access to the animals.
