Like the Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge which dominates the harbour front quarter is emblematic of Sydney. Millions worldwide stay glued to their television to watch the spectacular fireworks from the bridge at the crack of midnight every 31st December. Connecting Sydney city with its northern sector suburbs, this 1149 m long steel arched structure across the harbour carries rail, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic. Nicknamed "The Coathanger" because of its arch-based design, this bridge was built in 1932, and currently ranks as the sixth longest spanning arch bridge in the world, and the tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 m from top to water level. A spacious 49 m clearance makes no problems for ships to go across. People, who are fit, healthy, and adventurous, can climb the bridge in group for an ultimate Sydney experience. Climbers learn from the group leader about the fascinating history of the bridge, and its place in the city. The open vista from the top grants an unforgettable experience, and the scope of the view goes as far as eyes can stretch. A simple health check prior to commencing the journey is mandatory. This climb is very popular among locals and visitors alike, and hence requires prior booking.
