St Pierre Cathedral

Visit the abode of the divine – The Cathedral of Saint Pierre sits on the peak of the hill on which the Old Town is located. Built in 12th century in a Romanesque style, it was constructed over a period of almost 100 years. Since its original construction, the cathedral has undergone many restructurations; the current Neo-classical facade is from the 18th century. Since 16th century, the church belongs to the Protestant Reformed Church. While most of the interior was destroyed during the reformation, an altarpiece painted by German painter Konrad Witz in 15th century survived, it now occupies place in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoir. Visit this beautiful shrine, and connect with the history of Geneva. The interior of the church is worth visiting for John Calvin's chair from 16th century, and decorative paintings on the Ceiling of Maccabees Chapel. The highlight of the church is the viewpoint on the top of the tower. Climbing the 157 spiral staircase is rewarded with beautiful 360 degree panorama of Geneva, including the monumental Jet d'Eau in the middle of the lake.
