Jet d’Eau

The water wonder of Geneva – The Jet d'Eau is a large fountain located in Lake Geneva, at the point where Lake Geneva empties into river Rhône. Jet d'Eau is one of the tallest fountains in the world, with the jet shooting the water 140 m high up in the air. Original jet fountain at the same place was installed 125 years back with a height of 30 m, followed by another one in 1891, which threw the water at 90 m height. The current fountain has been in place since 1951. Those who arrive in Geneva by airplane can spot this beauty from high above. The Jet d'Eau can be seen from anywhere in the city; it has become a symbol of Geneva. Two 1000 KW pumps shoot the water out at a speed of 200 km per hour. At any given time there is 7000 litres of water in the air. Stroll around the pier, and you will be delighted to spot this engineering marvel which is illuminated white every night. The best way to capture the majestic fountain is to take a selfie with your loved one; it will certainly make friends jealous back home.
