Schilthorn

A 2970 m summit in the Bernese Alps, Schilthorn is all about the blinding snow and bone chilling winds. With panoramic views that begin from the Monch, Eiger, Jungfrau and Titlis and go right up to the Black Forest, Mont Blanc and the Vosges, this peak, along with its viewing platform is a dream come true for all nature enthusiasts. Don’t be surprised if you are reminded of The Wall from the fictional universe of George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones because the endless expanse of snow at Schilthorn is equally unnerving despite being breathtakingly beautiful. One of the biggest drawcards of this summit is the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant that serves delicious regional fare. Most tourists are intrigued by the fact that some scenes of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service were filmed here.
Your trip to Schilthorn begins at the Interlaken Ost station where you board the train to Lauterbrunnen. Sit on the right side for some of the best views of the valley. Once in Lauterbrunnen, you are supposed to board a 20 min bus to the Stechelberg Schilthornbahn which is essentially a cable car station. The cable car will then take you to Grimmelwald followed by Murren which then goes to Brig and finally gets you to Schilthorn. The journey, albeit long, is fascinating and be ready to pay anything around 130 CHF for the entire trip. Swiss Pass owners get a 50 percent discount.
