Kleine Scheidegg is an absolute mountain paradise with the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau covering it on all sides like a protective canopy. This 2060 m high mountain pass is also a watershed between the two Lütschine valleys of Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland region. It is mostly visited by travellers looking to climb the North face of Mount Eiger and also serves as the changing point for those heading to the Jungfraujoch. However, only a few are aware of the fantastic sights, food and accommodation that Kleine Scheidegg has to offer. If you love hiking, wonderful trails emanate from this tiny Alpine village to equally picturesque mountains and fields like Wengernalp, Lauberhorn and Eigergletscher. If you still haven’t had enough of snuggling with nature, the six km Eiger trail that begins at the Eigergletscher is worth your time. If you are visiting during the winter season, you have the privilege of watching these places morph into terrific ski runs. Kleine Scheidegg truly is a lot more than a mere changing and base station.
Trains departing from the Interlaken Ost station go up to Lauterbrunnen from where you have to get on a train to Kleine Scheidegg. The journey is roughly 90 min long and the tickets should cost around 20 CHF for those who do not own a Swiss Travel Pass.
