Riga Central Market

One of the largest markets in Eastern Europe, the Riga Central Market opened in 1920 and has been a great spot for locals and tourists alike ever since. Partly covered and partly open-aired, here you will find everything from pickled eel to fresh local fruits and vegetables. Particularly striking are the huge hangers that descend from the ceiling. These were built from parts of real zeppelins from the 1920s.
The market has around 80,000 to 100,000 visitors a day, who come to buy anything from fish to contraband cigarettes. In addition to food you can buy inexpensive clothing and accessories. Look out for local products such as mittens and anything made out of amber. The open-air area is lovely in the summer. It's located next to the Riga International Bus Terminal and Central Railway Station, making it a convenient stop.
