In order to ensure cleanliness at tourist spots in India, the Ministry of Tourism has taken a decision to spread awareness drive among tourists, stakeholders etc.
As per a recent statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism, it has selected 180 tourist sites for conducting Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) activities within the Swachh Bharat Mission 2019-2020.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism has also organised Swachhta Pakhwada and Swachhta-Hi-Seva activities at different destinations across the country.
News has it that the Archaeological Survey of India has identified 13 monuments like the Taj Mahal, Akbar’s Tomb and Sikandra in Agra; Rani Jhansi’s Palace in Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, and others as Adarsh Monuments (which means ideal monuments). The objective behind choosing these monuments is to offer basic amenities to tourists like toilet, interpretation centre, drinking water, ramps, pathways, WiFi, illumination, publication sale counter etc.
Earlier, the Ministry of Tourism had also declared all ASI-protected archaeological sites and monuments as polythene-free zone. The ASI had classified monuments of priority as Adarsh Monuments, some of which are the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Leh Palace, Konark Temple, Hampi, Rang Ghar, Sher Shah's Tomb, Jal Mahal, Sun Temple and more.
