The Swedish transport authority is in the process of launching overnight trains to boost connectivity of some important cities in other parts of Europe.
Reportedly, the overnight train service is expected to start in 2022 or 2023 once the modalities and logistics part has been taken care of by the authorities including acquisition of carriages and the operating in-charge of the train service.
News has it that once the train services begin between Malmö and Cologne, the transport officials may also start extending similar services to Brussels, Frankfurt, Berlin and Basel. Passengers visiting Brussels can avail the Eurostar service, which will also make a stop at Brussels Midi.
As per Trafikverket, the introduction of overnight trains will offer passengers a better alternative over short-haul flights, which in turn, will control the ill-effects of climate change triggered by excessive carbon emission.
