Cosily resting along the banks of the Havel River, Potsdam is the capital of the federal state of Brandenburg in Germany. The name of the city is eerily familiar also because the Second World War Potsdam Conference between the victorious Allied powers was held right here. This was where Germany’s fate was decided upon. In the year 1993, the city turned a thousand years old. The former residence of Kaiser Frederick, the great and a long line of Prussian Kings, Potsdam is home to the most beautiful palaces and gardens which have in turn helped it acquire a UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Out of the many palaces, Schloss Sanssouci and Schloss Cecilienhof are the most fabled. In addition to them, New Palace, Old Market Square, Dutch Quarter and New Garden are extremely popular attractions.
