While a lot of Indian travellers look forward to the winters for experiencing the beauty of snow, there will be no white Christmas in Shimla this year to bring smiles on their faces. The Meteorological Department has predicted that dry weather will prevail here in this popular hill station till the 25th of December. When Shimla received snowfall during Christmas last year, travellers from all parts of the country rushed to the destination to enjoy the snow in Shimla. But Shimla’s weather won’t be the same this year as the dry spell in the hill station will be coupled by a rise in temperature too, as predicted by the Meteorological Department.
White Christmas in Himachal Pradesh has been popular with Indian tourists for years as they head to popular destinations like Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie and Dharamshala in hope of experiencing snow.
Although white Christmas is not likely to grace Shimla this year, tourists can still be hopeful as the state is expected to receive snowfall around the New Year’s Eve.

Director of Met Department, Shimla, Dr. Manmohan Singh, said, "Nights in Shimla are warmer than Jaipur, Delhi and Chandigarh. Shimla recorded highest temperature on Monday night, which was 11.5 degree Celsius, highest in December month so far. Night temperature in Chandigarh, Delhi and Jaipur was 8.2 degree Celsius, 9.6 degree Celsius and 10.3 degree Celsius respectively which was lower than Shimla".
Even though temperature in Shimla is on the rise, extremely cold conditions prevail at the higher altitude destinations in Himachal Pradesh. While the temperature in Keylong and Lahaul-Spiti has gone down to minus 9 degrees, places like Kalpa, Bhuntar and Manali was recorded at 0.2 degree Celsius, 1.0 degree Celsius and 1.4 degree Celsius respectively.
