The 2017 Vacation Deprivation survey, which was an annual survey of vacation habits of travellers from different countries conducted by Expedia, has revealed that India is the fifth most vacation deprived country in the world. The survey also revealed that Indians (25 percent) feel they are the most vacation-deprived in the world. When it comes to ranking of the most vacation-deprived nations in the world, India was preceded by South Korea (82 percent), France (66 percent), Malaysia (65 percent), and Hong Kong (64 percent), followed by India with 55 percent which indicates Indians utilise fewer than the available number of leaves for going on vacations.
Further results of the survey reveal that 28 percent of the Indians don’t take leaves for going on vacations as either their work schedules don’t allow them to do so or there aren’t enough employees in the organisation for filling in the gap.

The results of the survey were revealed on the basis of response given by 15,081 respondents through an online procedure across 30 countries including North America, Europe, South America and Asia-Pacific regions.
Other interesting revelations about the vacation habits of Indian travellers are:

● While travelling for work, 82 percent Indians are likely to add personal vacation days to a business or professional trip.
● 60 percent Indians spend time at work dreaming and planning about vacations, while 15 percent do none.
● 42 percent Indians spend 1 hour or less (lowest) time dreaming and planning about potential vacations at work, while 33 percent spend two hours and 16 percent spend three hours.
● 35 percent Indians wait for more than three months and 30 percent wait for one to three months after returning from a vacation, to plan their next vacation.
● 58 percent Indians believe that a “mental health day” should be considered as vacation time over 42 percent who feel it should be considered as a sick leave.
