Mathura to host Janmashtami celebrations for 8 days this year

Mathura will witness Janmashtami celebrations for eight days this year. The celebrations will begin from August 17 and continue till August 25, till a day after Janmashtami. This move comes in an attempt to give a big push to the state in terms of redefining its cultural status.

As per the latest news reports, a mega cultural event has been proposed to be organised in Mathura to celebrate this occasion. Referring to this development, the state Minister for Culture Chaudhury Laxmi Narain informed that international artists from countries, such as Indonesia and Malaysia, will be taking part in the celebrations, while artists from Manipur, Assam and Gujarat will also travel to this state to perform.
Reportedly, 1000 folk artists from Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh will be performing at various events. One of the main highlights of the celebration will be Krishna Leela, which will be performed by artists from the New Delhi-based Shriram Bharatiya Kendra.
The minister also added that because of the state’s geographical proximity with states like Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi, Mathura draws a huge number of tourists every year. Reportedly, after Barsana’s Holi, it is expected that this mega event will be contributing to tourism in a big way.
During these eight days, films and laser shows based on the life of Lord Krishna will also be showcased. There will be rangoli competitions, and temples in both Mathura and Vrindavan will be illuminated with LED lights for the celebrations.
