Kunzum Pass has been finally thrown open after remaining closed for nine months. This high-altitude pass at 15060 ft pass on the Samdoh-Kaza-Gramfu Highway was repaired and recently opened for vehicular movement. Owing to the closure of this pass, locals of this area were not able to visit Kullu-Manali. Read less
The pass had remained closed since September 23 following heavy rainfall. During this time, a lot of tourists got stuck at Battal, Chhatru, and Chandratal Lake, who had to be airlifted later.
Therefore, the opening of this pass comes as good news for the locals of Spiti Valley. For quite a long time, they had remained cut-off from Lahaul and Manali and were waiting for the roads to get restored.
Kaza SDM also mentioned that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had now engaged its workforce and machinery to widen the road for the movement of buses.
