The country of Montenegro is a short two-hour drive away from Dubrovnik. It is frequently included in the list of top 10 destinations around the world. This is because Montenegro has a rich history and can rival any tourist destination in the world. If there is one place you must visit in Montenegro, it is Kotor. The coastal town is situated in the Bay of Kotor, making it immensely photogenic. Photographers from around the world congregate here to capture Kotor’s natural setting on camera. The town has a population of less than 15,000 but it is home to some gorgeous UNESCO Heritage Sites and medieval monuments. The Old Town of Kotor is where most of these historical buildings are located. Unfortunately Montenegro suffered a lot during the Yugoslav War during the 90s—however, efforts are being made to preserve its history and heritage. This is evident everywhere in the country but especially in the Old Town of Kotor. Don’t leave Kotor without climbing the Upper Town Walls. This is a strenuous experience but totally worth it. If you’re craving for an adrenalin rush then you could go rafting along Tara River or even better, paragliding over the city of Kotor.
