As the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, Sri Mariamman cuts a fine figure on the streets of Chinatown. Considering its location, it seems bizarre that it's also one of the busiest in the city, as worshippers flock here daily to pay their respects.

Dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, known for her power to cure epidemic illnesses and diseases, it's hard to believe this beautiful structure was once a humble wooden hut. Declared a national monument in the 1970s, the former Hindu marriage centre remains one of the city's most significant historical buildings. It's doesn't cost anything to take a look around, but a small fee is charged for cameras.
