IMD issues orange alert in Mumbai due to ongoing rains

Weather in Mumbai might play a spoilsport during the ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the Maximum City if the latest weather forecast is anything to go by.
The city has been grappling with rains since Monday with water-logging causing discomfort to the residents and visitors of some areas including the King Circle Railway Station and Gandhi Market. According to the news reports, it rained heavily in areas like Sion, Dadar, Parel and Byculla on Monday.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange alert' not only for Mumbai and Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudhurg as well. As per IMD, many of these areas will receive heavy to very heavy downpour.


The IMD, however, is hoping that the rainfall will gradually recede by Thursday and reduce to light rain by the weekend. The average temperature during the whole week will remain around 24 to 28 degree Celsius. Ideally, heavy rainfall ranges from 64.5mm to 115.5 mm, whereas very heavy rainfall ranges from 115.6mm and 204.4 mm. An orange alert means that the weather may hamper the day to day life of the residents of a place.

In Mumbai, the ongoing rains have increased traffic woes of the people. Given the fact that many Mumbaikars would be looking forward to visiting the Ganpati pandals, temples, and hold celebrations in their own home, such untimely rainfall is a cause of displeasure for many.
