Graz

The wonderfully attractive city of Graz is replete with cheerful parks, crimson rooftops and a sparkly meandering river. It is laid-back with an extremely vibrant nightlife and an exciting art scene. A perfect blend of modern and provincial architecture, this Austrian town has been a magnet for both travellers and aspiring academicians. With around six major universities, it largely caters to student population and that perhaps makes it even livelier. It was once crowned the abode of culinary delights and also the cultural capital of Europe. Of the many feathers in its cap, its addition to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites stands out prominently.
There is a lot to do in the second largest Austrian city right from seeing the Rathaus (Town Hall), Schlossberg (the hill in the Old Town), Neue Galerie, Art Museum and Opera House to Schloss Eggenberg and Herz-Jesu-Kirche, the biggest church in Graz. The number of museums in the city is almost impossible to count and the many Baroque palaces that call it home are marvellous. For history and art enthusiasts, Graz should be right on top of their travel list.
