Geoffrey Bawa House

Geoffrey Bawa was undoubtedly the most renowned Sri Lankan architect, and one of the most famous names in architecture across Asia in the last century. He heralded the 'Tropical Modernism' style of architecture in Colombo. Prior to that, British architecture dotted the city, but lack of space made it necessary to re-think design. And Bawa had the answer.
His iconic structures lie in different parts of the country and specialized tours are available to take you through his work and into his psyche. A must-see in Colombo for Bawa fans is his house, House No. 11; it lies at the end of a quiet little street and holds within an architectural marvel. Natural sun light streams within, making the white palette glow.
