Everyone calls it a floating mosque but its official name is Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque and it is located at the banks of a lagoon formed near the estuary of Kuala Ibai River, not too far from the town of Kuala Terengganu. Built in mid 1990s, Floating mosque is a young mosque in pristine white. The day we were there, the sky was laden with dark clouds that were just about to burst and the white structure looked absolutely gorgeous in that backdrop. A tall Minar (or tower) stands out and gives a perspective to the one big and many small domes of the mosque. The mosque is spread across good 5 acres and can accommodate up to 2000 devotees at all times. From a distance one can only see the white colour but when you enter the mosque, green and yellow glass doors and windows being the structure alive with myriad hues. From the corridor that goes around the mosque, the lake looks beautiful through its pillared arches. It is difficult to decide if the mosque looks more beautiful from a distance with its reflection in the water or the water looks beautiful when seen from the corridors of the lake.
