Paris celebrates 130th birthday of Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower turns 130! And Paris celebrated its birthday in an elaborate manner by hosting a mesmerising laser show retracing the monument’s iconic 130-year-old history.

To celebrate the birthday, around 1300 children were invited to a giant ‘snack time’ beneath the tower known as the Iron Lady. Also, a 12-min laser display began flashing across the façade, which will run till Friday night. To make this impossible thing possible, professional climbers scaled the monument to set lights.
The Eiffel Tower was opened for the first time for public on May 15, 1889, i.e., several days after it was inaugurated at the World Exhibition.
Eiffel tower is one of the most popular tourist spots in Paris, and attracts millions of visitors every year. Its construction was meant only to last till the duration of exhibition, but it stands tall till today, despite protests from all quarters of contemporary artists who thought and feared that the construction would give rise to structures without 'individuality.' Many other people feared that this huge 'object' would not fit into the architecture of Paris. Now, it is the most visited tourist spot in Paris, and even if you are in Paris and don’t want to visit this structure, you will still get to see the top of this monument from all over Paris.
Weighing 7300 tonnes, the monument stands at an impressive height of 324 m. The tower remained the tallest structure in the world for 41 years, until the Chrysler Building came up in New York in 1930.
