A quiet resort in the heart of Switzerland, Engelberg is a paradise for ski lovers and an ideal destination for those looking for some peace and serenity. Located around 25 km from Lake Lucerne, this rustic retreat is perched at a height of 1000 m and is home to a striking 12th century Benedictine Monastery. The hotels and homes of the locals are strongly reminiscent of the Belle Epoque period and travellers often feel like they have gone back in time. Towering above its story-book townscape, Mount Titlis and its glacier seems to be within arm’s reach and the Hahnen mountain is almost tangible. While the winters are all about snowboarding and sledding at a dizzying altitude of 2000 m, the summer months in Engelberg entail hiking, golfing and biking around its verdant pastures. In fact, the town hosts an annual Ski Jumping World Cup that attracts adventure-sports enthusiasts from all over the globe.
