The Company Bagh was made in 1868 and was named so after Alwar’s British ally and protector, the East India Company. Later, it was renamed as Purjan Vihar by Maharaja Jai Singh. Over the years, it has seen many changes and also houses a green house now. It is prominently known by the locals as Company Bagh, and very few know about the old name ‘Purjan Vihar.’There are lots of tall trees in Purjan Vihar to minimise the effect of the harsh sunrays. For the visitor, it comes across as an oasis away from the dry and dusty surroundings of the other attractions of Alwar. It makes for a lovely picnic spot with walking paths in the greenery and few eateries just outside the gates. There are some swings for kids and other enjoyable activities in the playing area.
