This is the historically important water body adjacent to the City Palace in Alwar. It was built around 8th or 9th century. The lake is said to have been renovated in 1813 AD by Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh.
Its architecture seems to be inspired from the step wells of Rajasthan. The Gopal Sagar Lake is a tranquil place to sit after sunset and experience the wonderful sights. There is a small temple structure on the far right of Gopal Sagar Lake and, sometimes, Sambhar deer can be seen in the compound. It is a short walk away from the Alwar City Palace.
