The Air India Mumbai to New York (John F Kennedy airport) flights would soon be discontinued. India’s national carrier, Air India, had started direct flights from Mumbai to New York last December but is now going to close down this operation due to poor demand.
The Mumbai-New York flight used to operate three times a week but was temporarily suspended in February 2019, after the Pakistan airspace had shut down. The service was expected to resume in June, but instead, it is being shut down permanently. According to sources, the Mumbai-New York flight has not been included in the airline company’s winter schedule, starting from the third week of October.
While other Air India flights to the US from Delhi have seen a seat occupancy of up to 80 per cent, the Mumbai-New York flight has failed. Currently, the airline company is running operations to Newark, Washington, San Francisco, and New York from Delhi. Flight to Chicago takes off from Hyderabad and goes via Delhi.
