Akshardham Temple

A kitsch, spiritual wonderland
Word to the wise: A visit here is a half-day trip at least, as the temple complex is some way out of town.

Considered by many to be a spiritual theme park, the Akshardham Temple is the largest Hindu temple in the world. Built by volunteers and a team of 7,000 artisans, and completed in 2005, there is no denying its impressive size or its increasing popularity - it is believed that since opening, the temple has attracted 70 per cent of all visitors to Delhi.
In terms of what to do here, other than ogling the temple itself, there's the musical fountains, the Garden of India, the option of taking a kitsch boat ride or the chance to watch films about the temple and the inspiration behind it.

To reach the temple take the blue line on the metro, line 3, all the way to Akshardham.
