Historic fruit and vegetable market
Talk of the town: The central statue honours excommunicated Dominican monk Giordano Bruno, one of the earliest cosmologists, who was burnt at the stake for heresy on this spot in 1600.
The overflowing food stalls of this historic market stand next to home basics and the occasional tacky tourist stand. It is a working market where people still shop, but due to the tourists passing through the prices sadly have gone up.
Sellers sit together gossiping and trimming vegetables, chopping fruit and boxing candy as people mill about them angling for tasters. If you're self-catering and something of a gourmand, you can pick up interesting things like wild chicory and white currants, or if you're looking for gifts the jars of truffle oil, inventive pasta shapes and herb mixes make for great culinary souvenirs.
