Almost four months after he quit as the spin coach at the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) BKC facility after his request to hold a camp for young spinners went unheeded, former India and Mumbai offspinner Ramesh Powar wants to throw his hat in the ring for the Mumbai coaching job, left vacant after former India stumper Sameer Dighe quit his post after a season.

The Lalchand Rajput-led Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) on Friday recommended the name of former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar as the new coach of the Mumbai team.

If Mithali Raj's letter to the board was a lengthy read, Ramesh Powar's report turned out to be lengthier, the bulk of it focusing on Mithali, who Powar wrote "could not understand and adapt to her role in the team, batted for her own milestones, (and provided) minimum input in team meetings".

Ramesh Powar, who played two Tests and 31 ODIs, put in his papers on Wednesday after a six-month stint at the BKC facility. The retired tweaker said he was forced to take the step after being denied the opportunity to conduct a three-week camp in January for budding spinners.

Members of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation's (KMC) standing committee on Friday suspended its meeting and threatened not to attend the weekly meet unless the civic administration did not grant the area development funds.

The acrimonious end to coach Ramesh Powar's tenure split the Indian women's cricket team with T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana demanding his return despite senior player Mithali Raj's fallout with him. Powar's interim tenure ended on Nov 30 and the BCCI has already invited fresh applications for the job. Powar can also re-apply.

According to a reliable source, the decision to appoint Powar was taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee of the Gujarat Cricket Association, which includes former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.

Ramesh Powar, who was sacked after the 2018 T20 World Cup, was on Thursday brought back by the the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) as the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team. Power, a former India spinner, was recommended by the Madan Lal-led CAC after the panel interviewed eight candidates including incumbent WV Raman.
