MUMBAI: The Lalchand Rajput-led Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) on Friday recommended the name of former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar as the new coach of the Mumbai team. However, according to sources, the MCA has approached former Mumbai stalwart Amol Muzumdar for the job.
In an e-mail (TOI has a copy) to the MCA, Rajput wrote: "Sir, the CIC has the prerogative to appoint the coach and the CIC feels that Powar is the right candidate to be the coach of the Mumbai senior team, since he has been the coach of the Indian women's team and is associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as a senior coach."
As per sources, the MCA informed Rajput regarding the appointment of the new coach, which Rajput disagreed with.

"We, as CIC, had written a letter regarding the resignation of the coach and you haven't replied yet and suddenly today you are appointing him (Muzumdar). We as the CIC don't agree and the committee's choice is Powar," wrote Rajput.
"As per the Supreme Court order, the conflict of interest relaxation for cricketers has been refused. In view of the same, the general body in the AGM advised the MCA's apex council to appoint a new CIC without conflict of interest. Two CIC members are in conflict," said an MCA source.
