Naxalites
Naxalites are referred to extremists who have joined the Communist guerrilla groups of India, mostly having links with the Maoist Communist party of India. Initially the the Naxal movement has its origin in West Bengal but later spread out to rural areas of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Research and Analysis Wing estimated that around 20,000 armed Naxalites were operating in the country and in 2009 the group had active members in 180 districts in over 10 states of India. Naxalites are often referred to as "Ultras" and are more specialised in guerrilla warfare. 2010 attack on CPRF marked the most deadliest attack by the Naxalites which claimed the life of 76 security personnel.
In late 2011,Kishenji, the military leader of Communist Party of India, was killed in an encounter with the joint operation forces, which was a huge blow to the Naxal movement in eastern India. As of 2016, Naxal related deaths have been estimated at 13,490.
