Border patrol agent David Maland, 44, was killed during a traffic stop near the Canadian border in Vermont. A military veteran who served at the Pentagon during 9/11, Maland had a 24-year career in federal service, including as a K-9 handler. He was shot near the Newport station in Vermont’s Swanton Sector. A German national was also killed, and a suspect is in custody. Maland's death marks the first on-duty Border Patrol fatality since 2014. Officials and family mourn his loss, remembering him as a devoted public servant.
