Actor Sheila Ramani Cowasji, who breathed style and sensuality to the Anglo-Indian nightclub singer Sylvie in the superhit Taxi Driver (1954), passed away in Mhow on Wednesday.

Veteran actress Sheila Ramani passed away in her native home in Mhow.

In 1954, the film 'Taxi Driver' featuring Dev Anand became a hit in Bombay. The film, along with another film called 'Aar Paar', focused on taxi drivers. 'Taxi Driver' was made on a low budget and shot on location in the city. The success of the film proved that a big budget is not necessary for a successful film. During the shooting of the film, Dev Anand married the leading lady, Kalpana Kartik. The film was hailed by the city's taxi drivers, who saw Dev Anand as their hero.
