The Yerawada police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old labour supplier and his two accomplices on the charge of abducting a businessman and beating him up with belts to recover money which the latter had borrowed from the former for his tele-marketing business.

Cops disguised as waiter and hotel staff to nab a couple who were involved in house breaking cases in the eastern suburbs. Among the three flats they burgled, one of them belonged to a police constable at Shiv Shrusti nagar in Kurla East.

MUMBAI: A Shiv Sainik was among the four persons killed in various incidents across the city in the last 36 hours. The other victims include a woman who was knifed by a spurned suitor, a watchman stabbed by robbers and a man killed by his neighbour over a petty quarrel.

The traffic branch of the Pune police has launched a special drive against such vehicles on Pune-Solapur highway after the committee meeting in Hadapsar ward office in December raked up the problem.

The illegal vehicles were creating traffic congestion at one-ways and Sasanenagar railway crossing gate, he said. He sought strict action against them.

Two pilots and an engineer, all ex-military officers, died in a helicopter crash near Pune due to low visibility. The chopper, belonging to Heritage Aviation, crashed minutes after taking off. The DGCA and Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau are probing the incident. The bodies were taken to Sassoon General Hospital.
