Verizon has announced that it will issue a $20 account credit to subscribers who were impacted by January 14th nationwide service outage, which left thousands of users unable to place calls or complete transactions that relied on mobile internet connection. The telecom giant acknowledged the failure in a notice, acknowledging that it “did not meet the standard of excellence our customers expect”.

Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves. To help provide some relief to those affected, we will give you a $20 account credit that can be easily redeemed by logging into the myVerizon app. You will receive a text message when the credit is available. On average, this covers multiple days of service. Business customers will be contacted directly about their credits.This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us.If you’re still having trouble connecting, please restart your device (power down and power back on). Residential customers who were affected by the outage can redeem the credit by logging into the myVerizon app and accepting the offer.
While Verizon has not disclosed the exact number of impacted individuals, Downdetector recorded a peak of 180,000 reports from users across the US during the height of the disruption. The company says that services are fully back and advises customers who are still experiencing connectivity issues to restart their devices.
