Hack of the day: File RTI Online for central government departments
Need official information from a government ministry, PSU, or department—but don’t want to visit an office or send a physical application? The RTI Online portal makes it easy to file a Right to Information (RTI) request digitally for central government bodies. Whether you're seeking data, documents, or decisions, this tool empowers citizens to demand transparency from the comfort of their homes.

What you can do

Using RTI Online, you can:
  • Request information from central ministries, departments, and public sector undertakings
  • Track your application and receive responses digitally
  • Appeal if you don’t get a reply within the mandated time

Quick steps to file

  1. Visit rtionline.gov.in
  2. Register or log in to your account
  3. Click “Submit Request” and select the relevant ministry or department
  4. Write your query clearly, focusing on specific records or documents
  5. Pay ₹10 online and submit your application
  6. Track your request using the registration number. If no reply within 30 days, file a first appeal through the same portal

Important note

RTI Online is only for central government entities. For state-level departments, use the respective State RTI portals.
