Sony announces PlayStation State of Play event for this week: How to watch to what to expect

Sony has announced the date of the next PlayStation State of Play showcase. The next PlayStation State of Play showcase will air on February 12 (Thursday) at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET. The Japanese gaming giant has confirmed the event will run for more than 60 minutes and feature third-party, indie, and first-party games from PlayStation Studios.In a blog post, Sony wrote that the livestream will be available on PlayStation's YouTube and Twitch channels. The company noted that the showcase "will spotlight eye-catching third-party and indie games headed to PS5, along with the latest from teams at PlayStation Studios," though it did not specify which games will be featured.The Twitch stream typically runs a few seconds ahead of the YouTube broadcast. The State of Play will feature news, gameplay updates, and announcements from studios worldwide.The upcoming State of Play event may feature PlayStation's first major game of 2026, Marathon. This is an extraction shooter title set to release on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on March 5. The event may also include Saros, the next action game from Housemarque, which is slated for an April 30 PS5 release after a delay from its previous March 20 date. Besides those two games, the rest of PlayStation's 2026 slate remains uncertain.Marvel's Wolverine, from Insomniac Games, is set in the same fictional universe as the studio's Spider-Man games but does not have a release date. Last week, Guerrilla Games announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative multiplayer game with a cartoonish art style that departs from the series' high-resolution visuals. However, no release date has been announced. The fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is scheduled for 2026 but still lacks an official launch date; it is far enough along in development for beta testing, Polygon reports.Both Saros and Marvel's Wolverine are likely candidates given their 2026 release windows. On the third-party front, more Resident Evil Requiem coverage is expected, given its close alignment with PlayStation on marketing. Based on Capcom's history with prior Resident Evil games, a Requiem demo is possible, as both Biohazard and Village received demos prior to launch. Capcom could also feature another look at Pragmata before its April release, along with other third-party and indie games. With over an hour of content promised, this is expected to be a significant PlayStation showcase for the year.
