The Pokémon Company has announced a new expansion, Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). The expansion is expected to go live worldwide on September 16. This will be the first Pokémon TCG set to have a simultaneous worldwide release.According to the company, all cards in the expansion will be foil, including Basic Energy cards. The set will also introduce a new "Futuristic rare" card rarity and bring back select classic cards from previous generations of the Pokémon TCG.Pokémon TCG: 30th anniversary celebration set: New cards, Pikachu collection and other detailsThe Pokémon Company said the new Futuristic rare category will debut with cards featuring Mewtwo and Mew. The artwork for the first cards in the rarity has been created by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN.Each booster pack in the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion will include one of 30 different Pikachu cards with unique illustrations. The company has already revealed three Pikachu cards illustrated by OKACHEKE, Yuu Nishida and Atsuko Nishida.The expansion will also feature Pokémon from multiple regions, including Espeon, Umbreon, Lapras, Drifloon, Zorua and Lycanroc as illustration rares. Meanwhile, Greninja and Sylveon will appear as Pokémon ex cards.Alongside new cards, the anniversary set will include reprints of older Pokémon TCG cards. These include Charizard from the original Base Set and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX from the Sun & Moon—Team Up expansion. The company noted that these reprinted cards will not be legal in the Standard format, but can be used in formats where the original versions are permitted.The launch on September 16 will also be the first worldwide simultaneous release for a Pokémon TCG expansion. The company said the move will allow collectors and players around the world to get their hands on the new cards simultaneously.Continuing the franchise’s anniversary activities, Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration features new card designs alongside reprints of cards from earlier years of the game, adding a new rarity category along with a set of 30 Pikachu cards based on the milestone year.
