Former CLTA trainee and Davis Cupper Sunil Supaeya of Haryana shocked third seed Mithun Murali of Tamil Nadu in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, to enter the men's singles second round.
Haryana's Ankita Bhatia bowed out of the tournament after a valiant fight with fifth seed Zainab Sajjad of Andhra Pradesh, 6-7 (4), 4-6 in the women's category.
