George Kittle left the game in the second quarter, and the 49ers later placed him on injured reserve on September 9, 2025, which means he will miss at least four games. That gave Jake Tonges his chance.
Late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Brock Purdy threw a high pass near the goal line. Tonges leapt up, pulled it down, and scored the go-ahead touchdown. Purdy later said, “Just put it where only he could get it. He used his length and came down with it.”Head coach Kyle Shanahan praised the tight end, adding that Tonges had stayed ready through every practice and earned his moment.
