Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was released over a playful kiss he shared with a teammate one year into his four-year deal, claims a famous sports insider. The Raiders reportedly voided the remaining $35.2 million which was guaranteed on Wilkins's contract. The Raiders had signed Wilkins in 2024 to a $110 million contract with $84.75 million guaranteed, but had to list him on the physically unable to perform list before the start of training camp.
At the time, it was reported that the Raiders fired Wilkins due to how he handled his rehab from a foot injury last year. But now sports journalist Adam Schefter confirmed on "The Pat McAfee Show,” that the sacking actually took place over a kiss. The unnamed teammate took offense to Wilkins' kiss.
Bombshell report claims Christian Wilkins may have been fired over kiss with teammate
"When you speak to people there, inside the locker room, they say Christian playfully went to kiss a teammate on top of his head, and those same people said that player took offense to it," Schefter said on McAfee's show. "So that's what everybody's been dancing around."
Schefter also revealed that an interaction between Wilkins and one of his Raiders teammates may have isolated Wilkins further within his team.
"So, that’s what everybody’s been dancing around and tap dancing around—an incident in the locker room where he allegedly, playfully kissed a teammate on top of his head. That teammate felt offended by it. That’s what a lot of this talk and speculation that people have just been floating around out there is about.
Pat McAfee weighed in on the controversy too and said, "That tells me a lot of things... If that happens in the locker room, and then they go and report it [to HR], that means the locker room probably didn't f--- with him."
However, it is unlikely that the awkward interaction was what led to the Raiders voiding his contract. 29-year-old Wilkins fractured his left foot during the Raiders' 34-18 loss to the Denver Broncos and was not able participate in drills during OTAs in May and was also not a part of mandatory minicamp. Wilkins’ inability to cope well with the rehab was reportedly a big reason behind his sacking
