Kansas City's star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, suffered a potentially serious ankle injury in Sunday's win against the Cleveland Browns. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter as Mahomes was tackled by Browns defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson. The gruesome tackle left Mahomes writhing in pain on the field, raising concerns about his availability for the next few games.

Andy Reid Addresses Patrick Mahomes’ Injury

There just happened to be a few moments remaining, seconds to be precise, in the final quarter of the match when Mahomes got injured while rushing for a crucial 4th down conversion. The moment Mahomes jumped to throw a touchdown pass, he was tackled by defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson of the Browns, who caught the ankle under him during that play. At that same moment, free safety Mike Hall Jr. applied the finishing touch, hitting his lower body, causing him to be bent backward in a very nasty collision. Walking off in a limp, obviously in pain, he was replaced by his backup quarterback Carson Wentz to finish the game.Postgame, Mahomes addressed his injury, expressing uncertainty about his availability for Saturday's game against the Houston Texans. "It's hard to say right now,'' Mahomes noted.
"I feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances, but I thought the smart decision ... was to put Carson Wentz in. You just do what you have to do to get back, and I think that's the most important thing."
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed Mahomes' ankle was not broken and emphasized the importance of starting rehabilitation immediately. "It's sore, and he'll get started on the rehab part of it as we go and then we'll just have to see how he does down the road here,'' Reid explained. Despite Mahomes' desire to stay in the game, Reid opted for caution. "He wanted to fight about it, but we've got good support with Carson, and it was good to get him a few reps."Mahomes has been designated as "week-to-week," which raises concerns for the Chiefs as they aim to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Their current record of 13-1 positions them as the team to beat, but the Buffalo Bills, sitting at 10-3, remain in close pursuit. For their matches against the Houston Texans and against heavyweights Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos, the Chiefs are getting themselves prepared at a particularly daunting stage. All the teams possess what can be fairly qualified as very solid walls. To make matters worse, the playoffs are going to determine a home field spot, and while Mahomes' injury might appear frivolous at best, it is going to matter terribly for the team. They seem to optimistically believe he can participate in the Thursday practice, which enhances his chances of suiting up against the Texans. For Kansas City, the bigger picture remains clear: ensuring Mahomes is fit for the postseason is non-negotiable. Their quest for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl victory hinges on their star quarterback's recovery. As Reid aptly stated, "There was no need to risk further injury."Also Read: "I understand the business side": Micah Parsons sets the record straight on Cowboys trade rumors circulating in the offseasonFurther updates on Mahomes’ status are expected in the coming days.
