He argued that Calais Campbell fits what Dallas needs. “Calais Campbell has been one of the league’s most consistent pass rushers since 2008. The 6-foot-8, 315-pound veteran would bring a massive presence and help restore credibility to the Cowboys’ defense at a reasonable cost,” he wrote in his analysis piece.


The logic is simple. Dallas does not need a full-time star. The Cowboys need stability and experience. Campbell offers both. He has started at least 12 games in every season of his career. He also started all 17 games across the last three years. That reliability stands out for a defense that lacked consistency in 2025.


The numbers support the case. Campbell owns 960 tackles, 117 sacks, and 18 forced fumbles. In 2025, with Arizona, he recorded six sacks and nine quarterback hits in just 524 snaps. Pro Football Focus credited him with a 69.2 run defense grade. That production, given limited playing time, shows he can still contribute.

The team briefly explored a linebacker fix. However, on March 20, 2026, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Dallas had pulled out of early interest in Queen. Harris wrote that the Cowboys “officially pulled out of its preliminary interest Thursday afternoon,” ending that path.


Queen’s contract played a role. He carries a $17.2 million cap hit from the three-year, $41 million deal signed in 2024. That price pushed Dallas to look elsewhere. A one-year deal for Campbell appears more realistic. Spotrac projects around $10 million. PFF estimates closer to $6 million.

For a roster built around Prescott’s offense, a low-risk defensive addition makes sense. Dallas may not chase headlines. But adding a 117-sack veteran could quietly reshape the Cowboys' defence.
