“I promise you”: Jerry Jones vows sweeping defensive improvements as Cowboys face defining offseason after 2025 collapse

Jones shifts focus from blame to accountability as Cowboys prepare for defensive reset

During an appearance on Dallas sports radio 105.3 The Fan, Jones delivered a blunt assessment of what went wrong. Dallas finished near the bottom of the league in yards allowed and scoring defense, with struggles consistent across multiple areas. Jones made it clear that the issues run deeper than one voice on the sideline.


He said, "More than one person had their finger in this," while discussing offseason decisions. He doubled down on that point by adding, "We're trying to solve the problem and get better where we are, and one guy is not gonna do that. It's not all Eberflus at all ... that was a team-wide breakdown."

Even so, Jones knows patience is wearing thin. He offered a firm promise to Cowboys fans, saying, "We will get better on defense, I promise you that." The release of cornerback Trevon Diggs following a public dispute signaled that performance and accountability are now at the forefront.

How the Cowboys use their picks in the April 2026 NFL Draft could shape the next era of the defense. Jones stopped short of announcing any shocking firings but is taking accountability and is in the process of rebuilding his team. For the team to be relevant once again, a significant upgrade in defense should be the prime focus.
