Before the trade, the Chiefs had already exercised McDuffie’s fifth-year option in April 2025, which guaranteed him $13.6 million for the 2026 season. However, Kansas City chose a different direction this offseason. The team traded him to the Rams for the No. 29 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, along with fifth and sixth round selections in 2026 and a third-round pick in 2027.


From the Rams’ perspective, the move arrived at the perfect time. The team faced uncertainty in the secondary, especially after veteran cornerback Darious Williams announced his retirement on March 8, 2026. McDuffie brings proven production. During his time with the Chiefs, he recorded 246 tackles, 34 pass breakups, 12 tackles for loss, three interceptions, and 5.5 sacks while helping Kansas City win two Super Bowls.
