Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore arrested in Ohio on weapons charges, raising fresh concerns on and off the field

Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore is facing renewed scrutiny after being arrested on Wednesday evening in suburban Cleveland on weapons-related charges. The incident has quickly drawn attention not only because of Lattimore’s profile as a former Pro Bowl defender but also due to his recent struggles to stay healthy and productive since arriving in Washington.

Lattimore was taken into custody in Lakewood, Ohio, around 6:15 p.m. after police stopped a vehicle for expired license plates and additional traffic violations. According to authorities, Lattimore was a passenger in the car and failed to inform the officer about a firearm inside the vehicle when asked. He was charged with carrying concealed weapons and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. Lattimore was briefly booked into jail before being released without bond.

A promising trade now clouded by injuries and off-field questions

A Commanders spokesperson acknowledged the situation, saying, “We have informed the NFL League Office and have no further comment at this time.” Team officials are continuing to gather details as the league monitors the case, which could lead to further review under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The arrest comes at a time when the Commanders are evaluating their roster direction and waiting for injured veterans to prove their long-term value. While the legal process is still unfolding, the situation adds another layer of uncertainty to a player once viewed as a cornerstone acquisition for the franchise.

As fans know, this is not Lattimore’s first encounter with law enforcement. In 2021, while playing for the New Orleans Saints, he was arrested in Cleveland during a traffic stop involving a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen. Court records show he later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor concealed weapon charge, receiving a suspended sentence and one year of probation.

On the field, Lattimore’s Washington tenure has been a bumpy one. He was acquired in a November 2024 trade that initially earned praise for general manager Adam Peters. However, injuries have defined his time with the team, as he managed just two regular-season appearances last year and struggled early this season before landing on injured reserve in November with a torn ACL.
