The competition saw dramatic shifts throughout. Chopra started strong with an 86.82-meter throw, securing second place behind Peters. As the event progressed, Peters maintained his lead with a throw of 87.87 meters, while Chopra had throws of 82.04 meters and 83.30 meters in the subsequent rounds.

Despite improving in the final round with a throw of 86.46 meters, Chopra could not overtake Peters. Julian Weber, who initially threw 85.97 meters, finished in third place despite a disappointing final attempt of 77.75 meters.
